After a very lazy December holiday season, 2017 has suddenly started off with a bang. Even though I've been doing this for a few years now, every single shoot is new and unique and every single year is different in terms of the types of projects I get to do. And if like me you constantly need new intellectual stimulation to keep going, the variety this type of work offers is fantastic.

I'm currently running Media Composer 8.7.2 and I'll be trying out a few of the new features over the next few weeks. Avid has been doing a lot lately to keep fanboys like myself interested in the brand and it'll be interesting to see what the coming Academy Awards will deliver in terms of Oscar-winning movies that were cut on Avid products.

Even though the SubCap tool has been around for a while I'm still impressed by how much easier this feature has made it to do subtitling. I recall a time when we had to use the titling tool to do this and you'd end up with jam-packed bins full of title clips just to just subtitle a five minute sequence!

Speaking of titling, my patience is slowly running thin with dearest Marquee that has been with us since version whatever, so I'll be looking at transitioning to a new titling tool soon.

There's a number of really big projects currently in planning for the year, so watch this space. In terms of my projects speed and precision has always been important to me, but this year will also require a lot more innovation. So look forward to seeing plenty of new and interesting stuff this year.

Stay tuned folks. 2017 is going to be an interesting year!
