Website project completed

January 13, 2012

I don't normally do websites but this one was an exception and it turned out pretty well. The site is for the folks at REDCO Services who wanted a new look to go with their newly designed logo and domain name. Oh yes...I designed their logo too :)

Check out their website at http://www.redcoservices.co.za

January 9, 2012

There's plenty of new things in store for 2012.

If you're a client of ours you can look forward to viewing your next corporate or marketing video in pristine High Definition (HD) clarity. Need to make a lasting impression at the next open day or trade show? Well make sure the marketing folks at your booth are equipped with an HD monitor and a Blu-ray player because that is exactly how your corporate video will be shown if it was produced by Match Frame Media.

We've now added Blu-ray to our ran...

Edit suite upgrade

December 27, 2011

We recently upgraded our post-production setup and if you’re a client of ours you’re in for a treat in 2012! Having wrapped up the last projects by early December we were able to reformat, rewire and rearrange the current work area to something that is now very close to my dream (home) edit suite.

The new edit suite now features:

  • A new custom designed desk. This is a huge improvement over the previous.
  • Mobile HP workstations with the latest versions of Avid Media Composer, Adobe...

Filming the Faculty of Engineering's new home

November 26, 2011

I'm proud to announce that Match Frame Media has been contracted by the Faculty of Engineering at the NWU's Potchefstroom Campus to produce a series of videos and an interactive media project aimed at the Faculty's 2012 marketing efforts. The project kicked off this week with the filming of the newly constructed faculty complex, now in its final stages of construction. I have to admit that until a few weeks ago I didn't even know about this development and believe me it is truly awe-inspiring...

Keep your cool - Cooler Master NotePal U3

November 19, 2011

I've now fully converted my post-production setup to laptop-based systems. The future is moving towards greater mobility and flexibility and the two mobile Avid workstations I'm using currently has more power and functionality than any desktop system I ever used in the past. However, with summer temperatures shooting into the high twenties/mid thirties, uber powerful mobile workstations begin to show one weakness - internal heat buildup. The past two weeks were scorching hot and I realised th...

Green with envy? II

November 15, 2011

I shot some green screen video with the folks from NWU Corporate Communcations today. We've been getting some great results with this and the university management also appreciate not having to go too far from their offices and hectic schedules to do the recordings. The new camera also keeps on surprising me - with the 174 Panasonic really improved a lot on previous models in the small format P2 range.

The clip is currently in post-production, so if you're NWU staff we'll be coming to a comput...

In production: new corporate video shot with Canon 5D

October 27, 2011

Above and below: footage from the shoot

What a hectic time of the year! I’ve been a fan of DSLR video ever since we worked on the L&B music video. When I landed a big corporate video project a few weeks ago it took me about three seconds to decide that I wanted it shot with a Canon EOS 5D. To the uninitiated the 5D is a digital still camera that has become all the rage in the digital video world where a few pros are applying them with great effect to shoot everything from high end commercial...

Getting serious about 3D - Zaxwerks 3D 5.0

October 22, 2011

I've been using the Zaxwerks 3D plug-in about as long as I've been using Adobe After Effects. The first version I ever installed came bundled with After Effects 6 - I remember I almost threw away the disk along with the empty AE packaging, thinking it was just more of the ultimately useless software that vendors seem to cram into the packaging of just about everything you buy nowadays.

But I quickly discovered that it is a very powerful weapon to have in your motion graphics arsenal. Zaxwerks-...

Take a stand! (a Miller stand preferably)

September 14, 2011

If you make a living from professional video a good quality video camera and tripod will be some of your biggest capital investments. And if either one of two is rubbish, the resulting footage will probably be of the same quality. In the modern digital age HD has become the defacto standard, with DV tape now basically relegated to little Suzy’s birthday party and maybe her wedding a few years later on if her parents decide to trim the big day’s budget.

Panasonic brought out a number of...
