Mon dieu! French Navy GoPro jets

Posted by Corne Scheepers on Tuesday, October 9, 2018,

Haven't had GoPro jets on here for a while, and that's just wrong...

To whomever films the French Navy's video footage: well done! Featured in this video on their official YouTube channel are French naval pilots putting Rafale jets through their paces. The footage is absolutely gorgeous. Enjoy.

So thrilled with my Sony Alpha...

Posted by Corne Scheepers on Tuesday, August 14, 2018,

My compact little Sony A7Sii keeps on impressing me. I did this interview for the friendly folks over at Optentia a while ago, and really 4K UHD just never disappoints. That in combination with proper cine glass and Red Giant's Magic Bullet in Media Composer has finally given me that much sought-after cine look.

GoPro 5 Session and app reviewed

Posted by Corne Scheepers on Sunday, July 29, 2018,

Above: GoPro 5 Session. And photobombing river bird.

An upgraded GoPro camera has been on my wish list for a while now. Why? Because I’m a fan boy, of course! But also because the transition to 4K/UHD production necessitates cameras that can capture footage at better-than-HD resolutions. I own two: a battered and bruised Hero2 that survived a mildly serious motorcycle crash and still works hard on a many of my shoots, and a Hero3+ (that the missus crash-tested on her bike) that can top 2.7...

And this is why you should be shooting 4K now

Posted by Corne Scheepers on Saturday, November 4, 2017,

4K, or UHD is all the rage right now. So what is all the fuss about? Well, the resolution of UHD images is absolutely gorgeous! If you need convincing just walk into any electronics store and take a good look at the 4K ready monitors and the demo material Sony, Panasonic and many others are peddling now.

But other than beautifully crisp images there's a very good reason to start upgrading at least one or two of your HD cameras to UHD soon. Most of us edit 1080p HD projects and output that as w...

Filming aerials. The legal way.

Posted by Corne Scheepers on Thursday, March 2, 2017,

South Africa has some pretty extreme legislation regarding the use of drones, resulting in a large amount of illegally filmed stuff being out there. So when I was asked to source a commercially licenced supplier for a big corporate video project recently it took some research before I managed to find my drone guys. Currently only eleven companies are commercially licenced in South Africa, and of those only a handful focus on filming for the television and film market. It has become a very spe...

2.7K GoPro test

Posted by Corne Scheepers on Monday, July 21, 2014,

When GoPro launched the Hero 3 there was a lot of hype around its ability to shoot 2K and 4K resolutions, most probably the next big thing in video since HD. However I used mine exclusively for HD work so I really didn't pay too much attention to the 4K en 2.7K settings in the menu. I actually remember thinking "What do they expect us to do with this crap?!" when I noticed that 4K was only offered at 15fps.

Then last week Philip Bloom exploded the interweb with a 2.7K masterpiece and I simply ...

Sony's little 4K monster

Posted by Corne Scheepers on Tuesday, April 3, 2012,

The video DSLR craze is taking the production world by storm. Sony is bringing out an updated camera in it's FS range soon that will shoot right up to 4K film resolutions, priced in the $10K range. The NEX-FS700 has not reached our shores yet but it willl probably be a very hot item when it does.  I like it. A lot.  Check out the review here.

My friend Eduan Kitching pointed me to this one.  And he should know a thing or two about digital film cameras. He's the dude in the surgical scrubs with...
